The moment i received an email from Kari (only a couple of days after her surprise engagement in Walt Disney World), I just knew that I had to meet her… and I knew, just from her words and tone, that I really wanted to photograph her wedding. Kari has the most joyful, delightful, and contagious personality. She truly valued photography and wanted her and Scott’s day to be beautifully documented. I loved knowing that because it allowed me to give her suggestions on little things that make a big difference in photos. One of those things being “getting ready” shots. She was getting married in a tiny church in Clinton, Oklahoma and it did not have a great room to get dressed in. Luckily, Kari had a friend in Clinton who offered her house. This home was the perfect backdrop for the first couple of hours of photographs. Huge windows (ie: lots of natural light), beautiful art on the walls, etc…
You could see Kari’s passion shine through in each detail of the wedding. Each thing or person included was there was for a reason… the candles as she walked down the aisle to meet her groom, Lauren Nelson’s beautiful voice filling the sanctuary, the tent-like feel that was created for the reception, even the miniature iced mochas and candy buffet.
And what has been so fun about photographing weddings is that i get to know each of my brides. They become friends… a lot of whom I am still in contact with years after they marry. Kari and Scott, it’s been so fun… I look forward to documenting your family for years and years to come.
